Breakdown

  •  Referencing on Classic of Mountains and Seas, or Shan Hai Jing (《山海经》in Chinese).

  • This major source of Chinese mythology (third century BC to second century AD) contains a treasure trove of rare data and colorful fiction about the mythical figures, rituals, medicine, natural history, and ethnic peoples of the ancient world.  

  • Relaunching on the modern illnesses that may or may not be an actual disorder. For example hyperphagia, procrastination, acrophobia, claustrophobia, OCD, indecisive...

  •  "Demonizing" the modern illnesses into the concrete monsters.

  •  Each page of the AR pop-up book represents a single game level.

  • Self-awareness of the modern illnesses. Evoke the possibilities of overcoming them.

Concepts

  • Physical book (about one meter long) will be assembled.

  • Basic structures of the environment will be presented and embodied by AR.

  • ​​Audio of the environment 

Aesthetics

  • Game characters and environment will build in 3D assets in Blender and Maya.

  • ​​Style references on Classic of Mountains and Seas, or Shan Hai Jing.

  • All the 3D assets will be implemented in Unity.

  • The interactions of the game will be coded in Unity.

The World of Compulsive Eating

  • Idea Summary: Food world, food size is either a human scale or even bigger.


  • Subject: most cannot resist food-(Pizza cheese waterfall, chocolate Jacuzzi, marshmallow bridge and stone, chips, pasta, dip, cereal, french fries, doughnuts, ice cream, white rice, hot pot, cookies...)


  • Analogy: Spirited Away,animated feature by noted Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki 千与千寻-无脸男.


  • Concept: Because of frustration, loneliness, and stress of the social appreciation f skinny body shape...

  • Interaction Design: 1st perspective to see the bigger and bigger belly and explosion.

Strategy at the geometry and texturing, texture maps? forms may not need 

Attempt #1:

Merge vertex> add skin modifier>make root> multiple layers>implements the facial muscles more? noodle denser?

Concerns:

1. size too big  2. aesthetically not so ideal 3. go back to alpha mask, what it looks like in uUNity as an image? How to utilize the Unity/Unreal engine? 4. other approaches? redesign the character?

what is the point to get into it? what is the goal?

How to shift it when there is not a physicals pop-up book anymore?

  • - An educational approach for making modern adults recognize them as different categorize of monsters

  • - Visualize the fear to know them, which is the same as the  function as the beast fable.  Specifically, the stories teach the children not to be greedy, coward...and so on. And, those only taught the common value to the children but nobody teaches or guide the grown-up to not the particular modern anxiety (monsters.)

Shift the view? 

Reason: It is boring to show the users a virtual world of food that is similar to what they usually see in daily life by just changing the scale of the food. In other words, it lost the meaning of being virtual and immersive, to experience and to see the point of view they never think of and visualized. The meaning is looking at the world from another perspective; how you see the human world,  as a food? The point is to explore the potential reason for Binge eating.

 

Why I Care: Personally, cooking and eating becomes my salvage to avoid stress from daily life. Without aware of it, a larger and larger amount of food that more than need cause weight gaining rapidly and regrets afterward. Various body shape is not a problem. The negative emotional reactions are what I want to explore and fight for.

 

Content: The user will be in a food avatar and having one or multiple food companion, their adventure of escaping from desired humans, who suffer from out of shape, emotion-driven eating, unhealthy eating, the pets(cats and dogs), which was out of shape because of overfeed, bored, and lack of exercise, and the livestock(pigs, cows, chicks…), which are fat because of overfeed and captivity. The adventure how the users in a unique view to see ourselves as humans and as the species who dominate other species. Specifically, the food user will meet those animated clips of the characters (human, pets, and livestock.) For example, a lovelorn guy, who is gobbling the food, notices the food avatar, (the user and friends,) run toward the avatar and trying to eat them… (Run! picking food from the avatar)

 

Story ending: two or one?

Show the last page (show what the avatar looks like at the end of the story) 1. The avatar able to escape from being eaten is still a relevant complex food portrait. Message: Thank you for able to help them from an eating disorder. 2. The avatar becomes the empty boxes of junk food, and the virtual world exploded.

 

How to apply the efforts I have right now: the food characters will shift from the encountered to the avatar of the users and the companions. The complex food characters look like Giuseppe Arcimboldobird’s portrait (convenient for the animation with the virtual characters)
